greetings greetings from sydney :)
sydney has been awesome!!! we've been going around sight seeing, shopping, eating, and basically, enjoying ourselves alot alot alot :) and how can we forget, living with a certain annoying person *ahem lijin* that keeps going "EEEEHHHHHH!!!" in the kitchen. haha. even as i am typing this.. ohoh. n i also went skydiving :) it was awesome. you know, taking that step of faith believing that God will keep me safe. lol.. pictures coming up soon :)
today was the start of hillsongs conference and they started with a night rally. boy was it.. WOW.. like really.. WOW.. thats all i can say.. it was excellence in a whole new level that i've ever seen.. from the ushers, to the set up, to the projections, pa, stage coordinators, worship.. everything was all talking about excellence.. even the starting was a bang.. it was awesome. really showing the distance they go to make this service to God all about being excellent :) something i'm really convicted to work on this sem :) maybe one day if God allows, we'll see zion in this sort of scale :)
the guest speaker for today was Craig ... *pauses and thinks and jiahuei laughs at me * Groeschel.. (pardon me, i'm abit zonked out frm d full day) if you guys remember, he was the one who start the One Prayer movment that our church just completed.. and what he spoke about today really impacted so many many of us.. i'll just share a short bit here.. if u guys wanna hear, get someone to buy the session recording for u k? :)
as you see the title states, Craig shared about the IT factor in our ministry.. just some questions to start this off, have you ever thought why some leaders have seem to have more effective in their ministry why some people just seem to have that secret special key that makes their ministry more effective?? lets just call this "magical factor" = IT..
some people say IT is the manifestation of the holy spirit working through the people. and yup. thats true. and it doesnt mean that if you don't have it, you wont ever get it.. neither does it mean if you have it you'll retain it forever.. it is kinda like the enthusiasm that we have for our ministries and our life.. just as the members of the early church had.. [ref Acts 2:42-47]
4 points were given about what contributes to IT.. i'll just share about 2 points today.. the second point is that one with IT is about to see opportunities when others see obstacles. people without IT would always try and find excuses to get out of sticky situations, while those with IT will see that he has been given everything he needs to get things done. how true that is. many times, an obstacle/limitation is always the start of finding out a new way to do things or a new idea that we can use. during my time serving as a coordinator and cell leader, i've really seen this many times. sometimes, when it seems that there isn't a way out of it, many times it just requires us to look on the positive side and decide we will make the best out of it and turn that obstacle to an opportunity.. and while i was reflecting on it, i realise that it is related to what the joshes have written about choices. even this, is a choice. when we decide to change our perspective from a negative one to a positive one. from looking at a problem and seeing it as an obstacle to looking at it as an opportunity.
the 2nd point i'll share with you about is that the one with IT is led by people who have IT.. remember the good old saying "everything flows from leadership"? basically thats it. and theres 2 ways we can look at it.. first of all is to think back to our leaders, and really be grateful for them. i can tell you all your cell leaders and zone sups are all awesome, and we believe that they all have IT in them.. amen? :) continue to support them in your prayers and encouragements yea? secondly, if all of you have a think about the people under you or even just in your areas of influence like your peers.. have they got IT as well?? if they haven't, maybe its cos you haven't either.. if they do, awesome. keep moving on together as a team to further God's kingdom. but most importantly, remember that what we do does not only affect us, but it affects the people around us as well..
this sermon really spoke to all of us today, and i must say he is really an awesome speaker.. even as you guys read this, really hope you guys have learnt something just as we did in the conference today.. and always remember, everything you do is a choice. to be joyful or sad, to let your emotions control your life or to control your emotions, to love others or annoy them.. they're all choices we have to make.. so whats ur choice today?

Everything is a Choice. The only 2 things you don't get to choose are the time you are born, and the time you die. Isn't if funny how God "chose" to create us even though He foresaw Man's downfall? Who are we, that You are mindful of us? And why is it even though we know this in our heads, can't appreciate what He has done for us? Indeed remembering IS a choice, and not just remembering, but a constant reminder that our "reality" is all but a lie. Slow down, take a deep breath, be still. Because God is but in a whisper in times of chaos.

Philippians 4:11-12 - I am not telling you this because I need anything. I have learned to be satisfied with the things I have and with everything that happens. I know how to live when I am poor, and I know how to live when I have plenty. I have learned the secret of being happy at any time in everything that happens.
Happiness is a choice; it depends on how you interpret life. To be happy, you must learn to interpret the world and its events in a positive fashion. This means that you begin programming yourself to see the good in everything; no matter what happens, no matter what goes down. Then, when you find the good in every situation, you take that good, and you build upon it.
It's amazing how many people, especially those who portray themselves as "victims," conclude that the lives they're experiencing have been chosen for them. But they're mistaken. In truth, their lives - all of our lives - are composed of our choices... we are who we are today because of every single choice we have made; good, bad and ugly.
Every life, including yours, is a tapestry of choices. And the quality of your life depends, to a surprising extent, on the quality of the choices you make. Would you like to enjoy a life of abundance and significance? If so, you must make choices that are pleasing to God.
From the instant you wake up in the morning until the moment you nod off to sleep at night, you make lots of decisions: decisions about the things you do, decisions about the words you speak, and decisions about the thoughts you choose to think. Today and every day, it's up to you (and only you) to makes wise choices, choices that enhance you life and build a stronger relationship with the Creator. After all, He deserves your best... and so do you.

'If God chooses to remain silent, faith is content.' -Ruth Bell Graham
'Contentment is something we learn by adhering to the basics; cultivation a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, living daily, and knowing that Christ strenthens us for every challenge.' -Charles Stanley
'The happiness which brings enduring worth to life is not the superficial happiness that is dependent on circumstances. It is the happiness and contentment that fills the soul even in the midst of the most distressing of circumstances and most bitter environment.' -Billy Graham
'True contentment comes from godliness in the heart, not from wealth in the hand.' -Warren Wiersbe

Every major failure in life - whether it's related to love, health, money, or anything else - every major failure is simply the result of a lot of little failures along the way that were never attended to. Little failures add up if you let them... so don't let them.

Thought for the day/week/month! =)
James 1:22 - Do what God's teaching says; when you only listen and do nothing, you are fooling yourselves.
Life is a series of choices. Each day, we make countless decisions that can bring us closer to God... or not. When we live according to God's commandments, we earn for ourselves the abundance and peace that He intends for our lives. But, when we turn our backs upon God by ignoring Him or disobeying Him, we bring needless pain and suffering upon ourselves and our families.
When you're faced with a difficult choice or a powerful temptation, seek God's counsel and trust the counsel He gives. Note-to-self: God's word is absolute! Invite God into your heart and live according to His commandments.
And when God speaks to you through that little quiet voice that He has placed in your heart, listen! When you do, you will be blessed today, tomorrow and forever. And you'll discover that happiness means living in accordance with your beliefs. No exceptions.

'Christianity says we were created by a righteous God to flourish and be exhilarated in a righteous environment. God has "wired" us in such a way that the more righteous we are, the more we'll actually enjoy life' -Bill Hybels

Face it: Talking about beliefs is easy. But making your actions match your words is much harder! Why? Because you are a normal human being, and that means that you can be tempted by stuff and by people. Nevertheless, if you really want to be honest with yourself, then you must make your actions match your beliefs. Period.
Words to ponder:
'The time is always right to do what is right.' -Martin Luther King, Jr.
'If you want to be respected for your actions, then your behaviour must be above reproach.' -Rosa Parks
'Don't worry about what you do not understand. Worry about what you do understand in the Bible but do not live by.' -Corrie Ten Boom

Hello UWA!
Guess I'll take some time off my busy schedule in work and be the first to post up something. It has indeed been a good and exciting semester that just passed, and I do believe we're headed for a better one ahead. In addition to our zone's leadership, we now have:
3 new Cell Leaders: Rachel Chia, Jeremy Tan and Joshua Lau.
3 new Cell Interns: Stephanie Sim, Lucas Lin and Jia Li Ma.
8 new Cell Helpers: Mark Cheong, Vera Lee, Henry Yap, James Lim, Isabel Tan, Khang Wee Tay, Lijin Ong and Michelle Hon.
Welcome aboard! Congratulations too! Our zone is indeed growing, both in character and numbers and we're expecting this growth to be continuing and to be growing exponentially in the near future. So, indeed, we are preparing for this, and getting ready for whenever it comes. We don't want to be left out when the season of reaping comes. (Remember my orientation msg at the beginning of this Semester? If you forgotten.. tsk..)
Your zone supervisors have a dream/vision. We plan to become to biggest (Character, Numbers, you name it...) zone in Passion, spread our influences (the good ones) and lead by example in this church. We are not very far away indeed, and I do believe it can be accomplished within a few semesters. No, I don't mean poaching their members, however much I would like to. haha! We thrive on competition. Iron sharpens iron.
Anyway, I'm sure more posts will come up regarding our direction and vision for this semester by our dear Zone-Supervisor-In-charge, and this post is really just to honor those people who have decided to step out of their comfort zone and help make this zone a better place (I know, I know, it's already the best there is, but believe it or not, there are some things we can work on... haha!).
Blessings!
Joshua
